Race To The Sailors' Rest
'Race to the Sailors' Rest' is a playful picture book for younger readers and their family re-imagining the amusing exploits of Polly the parrot and Hector the golden retriever, real life pets of Aggie Weston living at her Sailors Rest in Devonport. These two pets are best of friends, but even friends can bicker. Which is exactly what happens when parrot and dog decide to compete to decide who is the best sailor! Mischief and hilarity ensues as the pets vie to tie knots, scrub the decks of HMS Victory, hoist a sail, and race back to the Sailors Rest.
First founded in 1876, Aggie Weston’s Charity celebrates its 150th Year of supporting Sailors and their families. Produced for its Storybook Waves project, this anniversary book forms part of the charity’s commemorations, highlighting its values for a new generation. Aggie’s Storybook Waves is best known for working with personnel in the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary to produce bedtime stories for their children to listen to during times of separation. Their mission is to provide a tangible connection within families to support emotional wellbeing. They hope Polly and Hector will bring comfort and a few giggles to any service child missing their loved one.
